You have a choice!

choice

I was travelling back from Court the other day after a particularly difficult hearing, involving a divorcing couple who were in a dispute over how to deal with the family home and other assets in the marriage. An underlying theme to the whole thing was that the ‘only option’ would be to sell the house and each spouse attempt to use the limited equity to find alternative accommodation.

It made me think that there are a lot of ‘only option’ circumstances in this world. For example, you have been diagnosed with an ‘incurable’ disease by the Doctor and your ‘only option’ is to accept the diagnosis and live the rest of your (shortened) life bound by that disease. Or, you have got into so much debt that you are advised by a financial adviser that the ‘only option’ is to declare bankruptcy. Or, you are having so many marital problems that the ‘only option’ is to get divorced. The list goes on…

As I was thinking about this, it rose up in my spirit that, actually, it is a complete and utter lie that there should be any circumstance in our lives that has only one option, especially when that option is a bad one! If I believed that the only option is to live a life dominated by disease, debt, strife or any other bad circumstance, I would not be believing the truth of God’s WORD because the Bible is packed full of good promises on health, finances, relationships; in fact, good things in every area of our lives.

Since the beginning of time, God has given His children choice. In Deuteronomy 30:19 God says: “I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curses: therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live.”

We never have to accept any situation, that appears to be our ‘only option’! God is the way-maker, he always provides us a choice and, with Him, we always have the option to choose life. We choose life by reading what God says in His WORD and believing that it is true, believing that we can have that truth in our own lives and acting accordingly.

Don’t let circumstances push you into an ‘only option’ corner! Find out what God has to say on the matter and go with what He says! Soon, the choice you’ve made to believe God’s Word (life!) will transfer you from the bad situation to the good one!
